Xavier University is seeking qualified candidates to join our pool of potential adjunct faculty in the Master of Science in Water Utilities Management program for the 2026-2027 academic year.

We are collecting applications for part-time, non-tenure-track, remote Adjunct faculty position teaching online in the  Water Utilities Management graduate program. All courses are fully online and asynchronous. Current openings are below with Credit Hours in parentheses:


  • WMGT 580: Marketing and Communications for Water Utilities (2CH prof-prof)
  • This course prepares water and wastewater utility managers to design effective marketing and communication strategies that build public trust and support organizational goals. Students examine customer engagement, risk communication, rate and capital project messaging, and crisis communications within the public utility context. Emphasis is placed on translating technical and financial information into clear, accessible messages for customers, governing boards, media, and community stakeholders. Through applied cases, students develop communication strategies that strengthen transparency, credibility, and customer relationships. Note: In Prof-Prof courses, water professionals co-teach with Xavier faculty. 
  • Course Build: Summer 2026, Course Launch: Spring 2027

  • WMGT 640 Rate Setting & Utility Finance (2 CH)
  • This course provides water utility managers with the financial and economic foundations needed to develop sustainable, equitable, and defensible water and wastewater rates. Students examine cost-of-service analysis, revenue requirements, capital financing, and rate design within the regulatory, political, and governance contexts of public utilities. Emphasis is placed on balancing financial resilience, infrastructure investment, customer affordability, and long-term asset management. Through applied cases and financial modeling, students learn to evaluate and communicate rate proposals to governing boards, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Course Build: Fall 2026, Course Launch: Summer 2027

  • WMGT 650 Capital Planning and Asset Management (1 CH)
  • This course serves as a culminating experience that integrates utility finance, rate setting, and operational fundamentals into long-term capital planning and asset management decisions. Students learn to evaluate infrastructure condition, risk, and lifecycle costs to prioritize investments and develop defensible capital improvement plans (CIPs). Emphasis is placed on aligning capital planning with financial capacity, rate impacts, regulatory requirements, and service level goals. Through applied cases and scenario analysis, students synthesize technical, financial, and policy considerations to support sustainable, long-term utility decision-making. 
  • Course Build: Spring 2027, Course Launch: Fall 2027

  • WMGT 690 Capstone 1 (2 CH)
  • Students complete an independent research project answering an important water utility question utilizing the scientific method and data. Instructors mentor students through the research process, from idea creation and literature review to data collection and analysis. 
  • Course Launch: Summer 2027

  • WMGT 691 Capstone 2 (2 CH)
  • Students complete an independent research project answering an important water utility question utilizing the scientific method and data. Instructors mentor students through the research process, from idea creation and literature review to data collection and analysis. 
  • Course Launch: Fall 2027

  • Candidates must be dedicated to graduate teaching and demonstrate excellence in their relevant field. The successful candidate will contribute to our commitment to excellence in teaching and student engagement.

Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis, and candidates may be contacted as teaching needs arise. Adjunct faculty contracts are issued on a semester-by-semester basis, depending on program needs and student enrollment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required: A master's degree or beyond in the discipline in which the instructor is teaching and exceptional tested experience that has been validated through publication or public recognition. Examples of tested experience may include 5 years of experience in the given subject matter plus at least one of the following: 
  • professional publications in a field related to the subject matter 
  • recognition of achievement in a field related to the subject matter 
  • professional credentials earned in a field related to the subject matter 
  • other significant contributions in a field related to the subject matter (i.e., evidence of “tested experience”) relevant to the graduate coursework being taught.

Duties include:

  • Complete Xavier’s Adjunct Faculty Orientation Workshop 
  • Complete Xavier’s 6-week Introduction to Online Course Design course (approximately 7 months prior to course launch). 
  • Lead a 7-week MS in Water Utilities Management online course which includes
  • Timely response to student emails, hosting virtual calls with students
  • Communicating with students throughout coursework
  • Interacting with students in discussion boards and on assignment
  • Grading assignments in a timely manner

Compensation:


  • $1,000 per course credit hour for training and course development
  • $2,000 per course credit hour for course instruction
