Fairfax Water is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and results-oriented leader to serve as its Director of Engineering and Construction.  This key position is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of high-quality capital projects and reports directly to the General Manager as part of the senior leadership team. 

Fairfax Water is Virginia’s largest water utility, providing nearly one in four Virginians with high-quality water.  We provide retail water service to over one million residents of Fairfax County and supply wholesale water to partners in seven surrounding jurisdictions that collectively serve nearly one million additional residents in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C.  Fairfax Water operates two water treatment plants sourced by the Potomac River and the Occoquan Reservoir, with a combined treatment capacity of 345 million gallons per day.  The distribution network contains over 4,000 miles of water mains, 24 booster pumping stations, and 21 storage tank sites.

The Director of Engineering and Construction will be expected to combine a strategic perspective with excellent capital project delivery skills and to work collaboratively and creatively with the senior leadership team and the Fairfax Water Board.  The ideal candidate will possess the following:

·         Demonstrated senior leadership experience and the ability to effectively interface with the other senior leadership team members, a governing body, internal and external stakeholders, and consultants.

·         Extensive experience designing, permitting, constructing, and commissioning water utility infrastructure.

·         Experience with alternative project delivery methods such as design-build and construction management at risk.

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to build effective teams and create a culture of excellence.
